A Brief History

In 1601 William Shakespeare penned TWELFTH NIGHT, which many have considered his finest comedy. 400 years later, it is still his most popular play.

In 1996 Scot and Bruce Whitney were in search of a story from which to build a musical. One day the voice of Elvis came to brother Scot with a single command: "If music be the food of love, play on." Thirty minutes later the concept and outline were solidified for a rock 'n' roll twist on the Shakespearean classic. Elizabethan twins thrown in with a host of (mostly) dead rock stars, all aligning in a most mysterious manner with the classic Shakespearean characters.

A year later, A ROCK 'N' ROLL TWELFTH NIGHT opened at Harlequin Productions and was an instant smash hit, appealing to audiences of ALL ages, but particularly exciting for the "boomers". The production played to 95% of capacity, was extended for two weeks, and closed only because the venue became unavailable.

In 1999 Harlequin remounted a more tuned up version of the play in a larger venue with a longer run. Again, it extended for two additional weeks, played to 97% of capacity, and, with ticket sales still building momentum, was forced to close due to unavailability of the venue.

In 2003 we're pushing the pedal to the heavy metal. We've tuned up the play, altered arrangements, and put together a stellar cast and band to shake this town and put A ROCK 'N' ROLL TWELFTH NIGHT on the map.

It's Serious Shakespeare. Serious Rock 'n' Roll.
