Synopsis
A
Rock 'n' Roll Twelfth Night
with
apologies to William
Shakespeare
is
an amped up, vamped up vision of Shakespeare's classic romantic
comedy.
It's
serious Shakespeare
super-charged with an irresistible mix of blues, r&b, bubble
gum, heavy metal, punk, techno and straight-up rock 'n' roll.
In
this version, our Elizabethan twins are shipwrecked and washed up
on the shores of Dyleria, where everyone is a rock star. (It could
happen!)
Duke
Orsino is Elvis.
Lady Olivia is Madonna.
Sir Toby Belch is Jake Blues.
Sir Andrew Aguecheek is Little Richard.
Feste is John Lennon.
Maria is Janis Joplin.
Antonio is Johnny Rotten.
The Sea Captain is Bob Marley.
And the entire show is backed up by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts
Club Band.
The
result is a hilarious evening that celebrates the genius of Shakespeare
and the dynamic history of rock & roll.
A
Rock 'n' Roll Twelfth Night uses Shakespeare's original text and
structure. Sections of the text have been replaced by 25 original
songs written in the styles of the "stars" who perform
them.
It's
a rockin', high-octane joyride--a runaway hit in two previous productions
that sold at over 95% of capacity.
In
2003, we blow the carbon out of the pipes.
Don't
miss the ride of your life!
